what would happen if i swap my 1.6 weber for a 1.8 weber i have the 1.8gti cam shaft will it over fuel or will it be a bit quicker
sorry if this sounds a bit dumb

As far as I recall, you don't need to swap the whole carb, just the jets and emulsion tubes. The carbs should be the same?

Yes, carbs are the same. You just need to order some new jets, which will cost you around a tenner. Call any Weber dealer. They are easy to swap, but it's easy to get them the wrong way around. If this happens, you'll have a HUUUGE flat-spot at 3/4 throttle. I think the car will still run if you leave the 1.6 jets in, but not to it's full potential. Good luck!

but i might have worte this wrong i have 2 webers one that i have on the car which is jetted for my 1.6 gt and i have a 1.8 jeeted weber as well so i just wondered if i swap them over i would damage my car by over fueling i have the 1.8gti camshaft would i see any power gains i know not loads

Swapping them over will give you a big difference in terms of fuel delivery. Is this going on a 1.6 or 1.8 engine? If you're sticking it on a 1.6 then it'll be running far too rich, in which case stick with the 1.6 Jetting.

So far as cam shafts are concerned, someone like MikeH or Jake will probably be able to answer that, I'm still learning about all things cam shafty, lol.

i did this years ago in my days of driving vaux stuff. 1.6 with a 1.8 carb on it (GM Varajet)

perfomance did go up, but only very slightly, think it was just better at feeding it at higher revs, but fuel economy did suffer very noticeably.

try it and see what happens! it might improve things, but it shouldn't cause any damage if it doesn't. it's not like you've got a cat that will get upse if it does massively overfuel

As previously mentioned, the main body of the DMTL carb between the 1.6 & 1.8 version is the same. The only difference between the two is jetting.
