2 litre scirocco

Apologies if any of this is obvious stuff but I'm in the process of
aquiring the bits to give me a speedy 2 litre gti.

So I just wanna know what I'm gonna need to get/do.

So far I'm thinking

get 2 litre bottom end
bore out 1.8 to 2 litre
plane head
head gasket to match engine code from bottom end

I'm thinking of using a diesel gearbox and then putting some new cams in. But I have no idea what cams to use. I want the car to be usable as a fun fast daily. My budgets not massive atm so I'm not looking at anything ott.

And is there anything else anyone would recommend doing?

Cheers rich

get a mk2 gti golf or a b3 passat with digipants. swap in engine complete with efi and loom. use rocco 'box and flywheel. i've done this conversion, and it gave a very driveable result.

why were you thinking of a diesel box? higher ratios = slower off the mark

What I was hoping with the diesel gearbox was to make it more usable on the motorway.
I was hoping that with the right cams I could counter the lack of accelleration?
I've heard it's been done before. Anyone on here done it?

it was quite happy on the motorway without revving the nuts off it. happy enough to nearly get me banned  and if you were nice to it, still returned over 40mpg.

based on my commute to work which is 20 miles, some fun country lanes and some dual carriageway i consistantly got over 40 without particularly trying

i'd guess that for loosing a little engine noise on the motorway you'd also lose much round town driveability

Ye that was the problem I was worried about. The other option is a 4+e.

If you are considering hotter cams the last thing you want is bigger gaps between gears, or indeed vice versa.

I had a Kent GS2'ed 1800* with a 4+e and it could be a pain keeping it in the right rev range - while it just felt a bit silly slowing down on the motorway and then having to down down to 3rd just to get back up to speed, spirited driving on A/B roads was like driving with a 3 speed 'box... :dash:

* Your 2 litre capacity would improve matters though.

Cheers. I'll rule that out then.

Someone else has suggested just changing the difff but wouldn't that give similar problems with the low end round town drivability?

A more extravagant idea is to take the fifth gear from a 4+e and stick it in my close ratio gti gearbox. There's a link to an FAQ on the register pages. But it looks quite complicated to me and u could end up with two trousers gearboxes.

i reckon you ought to give it a try with the rocco box for starters. unless you're getting a complete donor car, it'd save a few quid not buying the box, and i reckon you'd be pleasantly surprised

Sounds like a plan.
