whats the best way to remove burnt in brake dust off laquered rims without marking them. ive tried the green side of a washing up sponge but even that marked the wheels took me all afternoon to polish out the scratches. once ive got the dust/marks off how do i keep them off (apart from constant washing every day)

Try one of the wheel-cleaners (practical classics did a group test recently, although I have thrown that issue away). A lot of these work just by letting the substance sit on the wheel for a while and react with the dirt/brake dust, then shouldn't require much physical cleaning.

There are also plenty of products that are supposed to protect rims from brake dust and make it easier to clean off - I've used the Auto Glym product, but only once so can't really say how good it is.

I find Auto Glym clean wheels very good indeed. Use a soft brush with it to agitate but be careful not to let the metal surround where the bristles are fastened come into contact with the wheel itself.

I use Auto Glym, great stuff. Concentrate on one wheel at a time, not like I used to do, spray them all the clean them!

No wheel cleaner will get propper baked on dust off mate, even Wonder Wheels will struggle and thats acidic! Best to use a polish to remove it. Even a cutting compound. Have you tried a clay bar too bud?

I used Silvo on my sister's alloys the other week. There was so much brake dust caked on to her wheels that power-hosing, washing, scrubbing, claying didn't get it off. But Silvo did.
