Clock removal, any advice?

I have to change the dash clocks on my Mk2 as the Mileometer doesn't work and my policy is agreed mileage. I did a test removal today to get the part number to give the breaker or to use for flea bay, but it won't budge beyond the aperture in the dash. I've done this before in Golfs, so feel a bit daft

, but don't know if there's something in the back of the binnacle stopping it's removal, or whether it's simply the loom /plugs and I should just go for it and force it. Any help from anybody with experience would be really appreciated.
Cheers Andy

Have you diconnected the speedo cable? They're not very flexible and prevent the instrument cluster from moving forward.
You'll need to remove the drivers shelf and lower dash cover to access it but then it's simply a push down spring tab whilst pulling the cable off the rear of the speedo head.
You can also access the electric multi-plugs at the same time or disconnect them as it comes forward.
Hope this helps

If it has a vacuum tube I've found that it is easier just to disconnect it in the engine bay and then pull it through. Some of them can be 'really' tight to remove from the black rubber if they haven't been removed for 20 years.
