A bit more power?

Ok so i would like a bit more power from my engine(1.8i dx) It already has high lift cam, port+polished head, supersprint full system and as of next week a 4-2-1 manifold. What else can i do to beef up the power a bit? Not thinking about an engine transplant. Thanks

NOS?

you've probably gone as far as you can apart from the less than practical NOS option - 1.9/2.0 litre conversion = next logical step tbh.
some would stick it on carbs but then you lose the day to day useability of the dx injected cars.

16v fuel regulator, larger (Audi) throttle body.
Have you got a vernier pulley for the cam?

Not sure about the pulley will have to have a look. What about maybe losing a bit of weight from anywhere on the car?

Megasquirt conversion, or other standalone management.
There's a guy on Club GTI, who was running an ABF engine in a Mk1 on Kjet. It was quick, but it's a stock lump with a supersprint manifold and system. He got over 20bhp and 20 lbft with a megasquirt conversion, and a wider, flatter torque curve. The before and after figures are from the same rolling road.
If you're running a modded engine on kjet, neither the fuelling nor ignition curve are right for your engine. I'm not sure if you'll get 20 hp, but I bet you'd get 10-15. As a short term fix, a 16v WUR made a big difference to mine, enabling a lot more ignition advance. (2.0 8v, 285 cam, pack D head)
Guess what the next mod is on my track car? Yup, Megasquirt! It starts as soon as I've got the road car reliable again. The whole conversion should cost about £500 buying a new ECU and loom, and throttle body, fuel rail & injectors, airbox, etc 2nd hand + mapping costs on top, which depends on how much you do yourself.
Mods - hope you don't mind me posting external links. If it's a problem, please remove it.

Unlike NOS, Megasquirt would give you full-time power, and doesn't involve remembering to refill the bottle when it runs out. It would probably also extend the life of your engine, as it'll probably be running too lean on kjet.

Right. I actually have a venier pulley waiting for the new engine. Don't ask how or why it ended up in my possession. How exactly do they work?

Right... when you have set your timing on your car, it may not be exactly TDC. The vernier just allows a small amount of adjustment either side of a tooth's width to allows for precise location of TDC on your camshaft.
