Making the badges silver/chrome?

Ok.... so my VW, Scirocco badges are crappy black colour and rear ones are faded :(

Really want nice shiny chrome ones but don't wanna have to get a mortgage to do so!

So I thought about spraying them, the front is easy but obviously the rear ones are two tone - silver on black.

How the hell can I spray them silver and still keep the black background..... cant mask them because can't get the detail fine enough to make it look good around the lettering.

Any ideas???? - Not tried but thought bout spraying the silver paint on a bit of paper in small quantities and dabbing the badge onto it thus only getting it on the bit needed to be silver????

I had an old metal golf badge, polished up the raised golf bit, then primed up the whole badge, rubed down the raised bit with fine paper, then sprayed the lot black, and once again rubed down the raised bit. Easy done on a metal badge, same principle would apply to a plastic one, just be a bit more carefull

mask the bit you don't want to paint by carefully painting it with grease before you start. did this for some wheel centres a few years back and it worked ok, you just need to trim the excess paint off with a scalpel afterwards

I Have just re done mine using s silver metalic permanent marker pen from WH Smiths, you haev to remove the badges clean them and with a very steady hand draw the silver back on, you have to be very carefull you dont want the pen to go any where else, I will post a photo today,
the Pen is actually paint in a pen

let it dry overnight on a radiator, they have been on the car now for a month and still look good

Well mine have been on a few years with no lacquer, so no. But that's not to say it won't work.

No worries... was more interested in protecting them from cleaning than degradation of looks. I'll take a butchers when I do mine.

Wonder what Gold leaf would look like, hahaha :D

never tried it, but humbrol do paint-on masking. Forgotten the name. Available at model shops. Wondered if you could do the black, paint this stuff on all over, sand the tops of the letters, then paint silver and peel the masking off?

Just a thought.

Maskol if memory serves... and it's sheeeeeite, because to get a good cleean line guess what, you have to mask it with tape, lol.

I NEVER got a decent finish with it when I did car modelling (admitedly a few years ago!)
