Pads looking a bit low on the gtx so going to replace them and the discs, seem to work well enough so not uping the size, just replace with decent quality stuff and braided lines. Standard discs decent enough? What pads would you recomend? Was told pagid fast road were the best but cant find them anywhere.

Standard disc with Mintex M1144 get the thumbs up from me.

A second vote for the 1144s here. Again with standard vented discs, although 256mm ones.

avoid greenstuff. also avoid budget brands (QH, drivemaster etc)

go for a well known name pagid, mintex, ate

if you're fitting new discs, go for brembo "normal" vented direct replacements from gsf. i think they're the ones with 'BQ' listed in the description, but you'll have to ask to be 100%

are the discs really needing replacing?

I would go 256 if i knew where to get spacers to push my calipers out a bit, know of any? Not too sure about the discs nate, going to have a proper look on monday when im fitting new springs.

That is cheap for the hoses and pads. The hoses won't be stainless ends though which I would advise.

when i bought the goodridge hoses to go on mine they were cheaperer than normal ruber ones

caddy forum for caliper adapters apparently. If you're gonna upgrade though, why not go straight to 280? I think you'll only spend an extra £50 overall to go two steps up rather than just one. Mine are 256. They are noticeably better but in hindsight i'd have gone 280.

I went for a 256 mm upgrade and I'm very happy, it is so much better than standard that I'm not sure how I managed before.

I agree that 280 mm would be be better but from an insurance point of view, 280 mm would be considered a non-standard (for a Scirocco) upgrade.

I called my insurance company and explained that I was upgrading to basically 16V brakes (rear discs too) and they weren't that bothered, just a few pounds on the premium. But when I mentioned some of the bigger non-standard brakes they started to get quite excited.

Just something else to be aware of.

You need to argue that it's a safety point rather than a modification.

+1 on the safety. I said to my insurer that my mechanic recommended that the brakes were replaced with 280's to increase braking performance, and they gave me a discount on the price of the insurance which I was WELL surprised about. (But that discount might disappear when I tell 'em about the 2 litre conversion, lol)

Want the option to run the standard pslots on her, getting old Can you use the caddy adaptors to bolf 256mm callipers to a rocco hub? Do you need carriers?

DT1 are you running standard mc and servo? Ive heard that not upgrading them with the calipers can mess up the hydralic balance?

I haven't fitted the servo and master on mine yet. Still running original. Doesn't seem to be any upset of anything though. I changed the calipers, discs and pads for a complete setup off a 16v rather than shifting the original calipers.

Me: I'm thinking about improving the brakes on my car and I was wondering what impact it would have on my premium.
Them: What exactly do you intend to to do?
Me: Upgrade the brakes on my Scala to front and rear discs to improve braking.
Them: That would be a performance modification.
Me: No...the performance is the same. I'm not touching the engine, just the brakes so that it stops better.

Me: It is VW standard, it was fitted to later Scirocco's.

Me: Yes, but it's only the brakes I'm improving because they are better, not the engine. I will have the same car but better brakes. It will be safer.

We then talked about other options.

I had already paid my insurance for the year, but I will be looking around to renew soon.
