Hey

I am looking for some advice. I have recently stripped out the interior and then painted the floor with black hammerite and i was going to put the carpets back in but i dnt know if im better putting some sort of underlay down first?
If so what kind and where would i get it?
Any help would be helpful.

Have a look at Newton Commercials, I was reading about them in PVW a few months ago.
I did the same with the Scala as it had a leak and the sound deading was a stinking mess, so I put some spare underlay in that I had left over when I got new carpets in my house, works a treat and quiet as I put 2 layers in!

thats a good idea, ill probably use normal underlay.
I checked the prices of that dynamat stuff and it was quite pricey.

Well if they underlay is good enough for the house, then more than up to the job in the car, to be honest I think my car is even quieter now.

In fairness, sound proofing like Dynamat is excellently suited reducing panel vibration (door panels, roof, etc) where it's sticky properties are just FAB.

I used to use household underlay in my mini's all the time (and on the odd ocacasion a roll end from Billy ducks carpets in Darlington - yes, I DID have a length of Axminster in my mini in the 80's, it went very well with the walnut effect dash, lol) and it works a treat, if a bit heavier than the bespoke car sound proofing.

I think the area it doesn't excel in though is water retention! Maybe try some of the underlay you get for laminate flooring? Might be better suited, especially as it's water repellant...
