Repair or replace? (the bonnet)

Here it is...

Now - I got a quote yesterday for labour for the repairs. I'm happy to say, I've sourced all the parts locally (NI) and this will be a fast fix up job

The body shop were adamant that they can repair this bonnet. ie. straigten it, fill/smooth & spray. They say it'll be fine. I'm not so confident/sure. I can get a bonnet off the car I'm getting the other parts off. It'll not be to expensive either - the seller is a VAG enthusiast and is selling the other bits way cheaper than eBay parts.

So what would you do... please vote and add your comments. Repair or replace?

Cheers :good:

Johnny

I guess it depends on the labour costs of repairing the old one against totally respraying the replacement one (assuming the replacement is a different colour).

The labours not too bad - £300-350 to do the lot including fixing up 3 other wee dings. In saying that, the replacement bonnet wouldn't cost much either (he charged me £30 for a wing complete with body kit section). Cost wont decide it really. Will the bonnet REALLY repair up so you wont see it?

If it is repaired the whole bonnet will need re painting anyway by the time their done. Get the new bonnet prepped and sprayed properly then at least you know you have solid metal there and not a load of filler.

Makes sense. Unanimous voting there - so I'll not argue with that. Have now requested the replacement bonnet from the chap who's doing the other spares for me.

Thanks.

That didn't take you long :D Or I'm guessing the images are the wrong way around.

I voted replace. End of the day, it'll possibly cost more to repair than it will to replace and spray if you have one on tap.

:hehe: Yeah... after and before pics!

Quite right - better to have a solid bonnet than one full of filler. It was when I looked at the car today and noticed that the bonnet edges are SO straight. Cant imagine a repair looking as sharp.

Good descision, the two hardest panels to get repairs right on are the roof and the bonnet
