All GTs, except for some produced for a year 1988/89, had a 1.6 engine and the black body kit. The 88/89 model still had the black body kit, but was fitted with the same 1.8 carb engine in the GTII and early Scalas and the GT S (and some earlier non-bodykit models). When the Scala became fuel-injected, the GTII replaced the GT. GTIIs have colour-coded body kits, tartan-check sports seats and different steel wheels as standard.

Not mine, but there have been a few posts about this over the years mate, would appear to be quite common.

GTII also had black striped rear light clusters, along with the little badges on the centre pillars. Colour coded wing mirrors are included in the body coded skirts.
In a nut shell... cosmetic differences really

Bear in mind of course... the quick (and easy) way to get a car looking GTII(ey) in the old mini cooper syndrom was just to add the bits required.
I got my GT handed down from my uncle, and he swore blind it was a GTII, til I pointed out that the two stickers on the centre pillars were probably someone in the past with higher aspirations that their budget allowed, lol. EVERYTHING was stock GT, except those two little badges (even the boot badge was stock, lol)
