Hi all, my car is a bit of a bathtub at the moment, due to (I think) catastropic failure of the outer window scrapers - the rubber on both sides has completely corroded and (as my drive has a little bit of a bank) I think water has gotten into the doors and filled the passenger footwells.
I've taped up the seals for now (it's serious and I hadn't really noticed it until yesterday when I decided to clean the car out - no-one ever rode in the back anyway. I also checked for other leaks - because it's on both sided of the car AND the front footwells are dry, I don't think its running in from the heater matrix or bulkhead area. Also I checked the boot, but except for a little bit of moisture hear the boot lock, it's completely bone dry. It's also a fairly recent issue, as I recently replaced the mats with some trendy ones with white piping and I would have definately noticed it then.
Is this a simple repair or am I doomed to ride in a musty car? Do I have to replace the whole seal, is there a kit to replace just the scraper rubber? - also, are there any "Universal" kits I can use - after all, it's only a strip of rubber.
Cheers.
Paul

Re: Outer window scrapers completely corroded
I replaced the crusty and crumbling scrapper mouldings on my Storm, I got them from Heritage VW 0845 8737241.
They were the only place I could get them, spot on fit.

Cheers, I'll give them a ring - what did you ask for exactly? I find there's a number of ways to refer to them.
Were they difficult to fit?

The bloke told me they were called scrapper mouldings. They were not difficult to fit, wind the window down and push in place until the lock, 2 minute job mate.

Re: Outer window scrapers completely corroded
Just to let people know, gave these guys a ring: really helpful, great customer service. Unfortunately, they don't stock them as a rule so they have to order them in - 3-4 weeks! Hopefully it won't rain much before then (HA!) but I'll probably go and buy a car cover to save it getting any wetter.
Cheers Ian!
