Fuel Fix

Hey,
I had the same problem as mentioned here;
http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carf ... =12&t=2763
and used a g-clamp around the return pipe going from the fuel regulator/condenser whatever it may be called, i have pretty much shut it off completely to cure the problem, when i let it out a bit to allow some fuel through it will kind of mis-fire judder a tad at mid-revs in 3rd, 4th and 5th. However if i just put my foot down it'll power straight through and be fine. The problem is on a recent motorway trip i only got 30mpg, whereas when i first got the car i was getting around 38mpg, i don't know what the average is and whether i was just lucky but i was thinking that maybe it should be a tad higher than 30mpg. I was just wondering if anyone knew why there was too much fuel going back to the tank and not into the carb to cause the cutting out in the first place, I've had the jets cleaned out, could it be a small blockage in the pipe going from the condenser/ mixer pot to the carb? is there a way to check it without a pressure gauge?

cheers

I'd have suggested getting the car on a rolling road. They can measure the amount of emissions the engine produces so will know if your carb is over/under fuelling. They'll also set up your ignition timing. Worst case they'll tell you what's wrong with the car so you can go and sort it..
