Okay so the Bandit is going into the garage within the next few weeks to get ready for UD.
First on the list is whether fitting the rear discs is really worth all the effort. As I've mentioned somewhere else I really can't tell the difference between the drum/disc set but then I don't hammer cars all that quickly and have a more than adequate brake system up front.
Secondly is where my long term and trusted mechanic and I disagree.
He's been playing with Vws for longer than I have and knows his onions and doesn't seem to think that uprating the servo will make a difference. He seems to think that despite the uprated brakes I have at the front the new master cylinder will be fine.
I'm tempted to get it done anyway as it's painted up and just sat there but wondered if anyone has gone this route

Re: Uprated Servo
well................
scala has the mk2 golf 16v master cylinder/bottle/servo upgrade and is more than adequate for most situations - needs a fluid change soon though. apparently i might not have needed to change the actual servo being a later car* but the replacement 'looked' in better condition at the time of the upgrade and has performed faultlessly for 4.5 years.
*apparently the late scalas came with the bigger servo?
brm has the brm38 servo upgrade with custom m/c and was the very first upgrade done to the brakes on the original GTX. It's actually a Rover 400 or 600 servo according to those in the know. It is still the biggest improvement confidence/'feel wise' i have had done to any of the cars tbh. Since supplemented by the front 256mm conversion back in the day which of course boosts actual braking. Car runs rear drums and still feels and performs well 20 years on.
the autocavan brake link added to the full 16vset up on the black car gives a very good progressive feel - especially since the bottle was relocated back to the engine bay adjacent to servo - but even with rear discs doesn't feel anymore capable than the brm car with a similar front set up hardwarewise.
hope that helps James?
