Scirocco Register

Hi all
I've got a new fuel filter and fuel pump to replace what's in my 91 MK2 GT2 Rocco (Carb model). I'm going to be doing the work myself, as it looks pretty easy from the Service Manual I have. Is it a case of just disconnecting the fuel lines, and putting in the new filter the right way round? And will the pump just come off and the new one go back on?
I'm used to newer cars, with those kinda engines where any work is a pain, so if I can do this pretty easily, then I'd be chuffed.

Im no expert but have had the filter and fuel pump off on mine no problem - the filter is just clipped into the fuel line, you might need some new clips if yours are corroded but otherwise piece of piss. The pump is the same literally just unbolt it from the engine and replace.

If you dont mind my asking where did you get the parts, Im looking for a fuel lift pump for the tank and having trouble locating one and my car is in france so cant even look to see what the part number is.

A mate of a mate works for Partco, so he got it for me, the pump and filter together cost me under £30
I'm gonna try fitting them tomorrow

one final question before I start changing the pump/filter. Do I take out the fuse for the pump, then run the car till it stalls?

is it the front end pump youre replacing? As that is mechanical and driven off cam shaft so doesnt have fuse.... as far as i know

There is no fuse buddy as it's a mechanical pump, just undo the clips on the fuel lines and unbolt the pump from the block, make sure you connect the hoses back the right way round. You will get some fuel spillage , but not much. There Is no tank lift pump for carb cars matey, the front pump does all the work.

By the way, have you checked the condition of the fuel filler neck ? If it's badly corroded you will have dirt , rust and water in the fuel tank. This dirt can block the pick up pipe in the fuel tank stopping fuel coming through. It's a very common problem with Sciroccos.

I'll check the filler neck as I'm doing the work. Hopefully it's ok.

fuel filter is in. The old one was pretty manky!
I'm gonna attack the fuel pump later, after I've bought some jubilee clips to hold the pipes onto it.
I noticed the replacement one I bought is laid out slightly differently. It looks like it'll swap straight over fine, but instead of both pipes going into it being on the front of the pump, one is on the front, and one is upright, 90 degrees from the pump. Anyone know if I've got the wrong pump? Or does it not matter?
And does it matter which pipe I connect to each side? Or does that not matter either?
