I'm gonna change my suspension when I get the money tohether. I don't want to spend much (hopefully £200 to £300) and as far as I can tell, my options are Spax suspension kit for £265 non-adjustable, lowers 40mm front and back or Jamex coilovers, £200 off ebay with height adjustment only. Surely that cheap price reflects poor quality?

My aim is to prevent rubbing at the back over speed bumps with rear passengers and also tighten up the way the car handles. I intend to get poly bushes fitted all round at the same time, there's a full set on ebay for £100 made by FloFlex.

I don't want a horrible stiff ride and I'm not bothered whether the car looks slammed or not. I want it to drive like a newer sharper car.

So - which is the best option? Or are there other options I'm not aware of?

Jamex coilovers, £200 . ride could be stiff...Therefore spend out some more and get damper adjustable one's..Add about 150-200 more..

Just bought a vento that has cheap coilies fitted to it. Now im going to get a set for the scirocco when shes back otr in the summer. Bit bouncy when they are excessivly lowered but at a sensible height they are great

You could get a Weitec Ultra GT kit in your budget, which have a pretty good reputation:

Personally I think I'd go for decent brand shocks/springs rather than budget coilovers.

Powerflex bushes come highly recomended if you don't want a harsh ride.
Or failing that - just replace them with new VAG items...

I'm going for poly coz they'll last longer and have a sharper, less spongy feel from what I can gather. I understand they can cause vibration if you fit certain ones though.

Right, with regards the suspension, I reckon it's between the two above (cheers ed) or these: http://www.silverstonetuning.com/online ... _2356_2358 I'm swaying towards these but the Konis have a lifetime warranty which is reassuring and people on here seem to favour Weitec so I'm sill undecided. Any thoughts?

No one seems to be particularly advocating the Jamex coilover option even though they're only £200.

Cheers Phil but you want £300 just for the fronts, I want to spend less than that on both.

Ah, not awfully well-written advert on my part I'm afraid

It's a full set of fronts AND rears of top adjustable Koni front inserts, built into VAG struts, the rears being complete Koni units. The springs are Eibach front and rear. Only thing I need to double check is that the rears are on-car adjustable (not off-car adjustable).

In my opinion you get what you pay for with suspension. For a full set of New coilovers I wouldnt look to pay less than £400..
My experiences with Jamex is they are harsh, and tend to bounce you about quite alot especially if your driving on country roads.

i had a set of the hottunin ones one my mk1 for best part of 2 years and i didn't have a problem with them yes they were stiff but all coilies are and they improved the handlin and looks to no-end!

koni warranty is only compliant if you keep the car.Which we trust you will.

Weitec suspension ive heard nothing but good feedback on them.

As for the poly's it will make the drive harsher, and for normal road use (for me) is abit excessive given the delights of our roads also just a pointer make the car to stiff and you might find it drifting out alittle on damp roads when cornering. I personly would only fit them if i did track days, new vw bushes fitted will make the ride completey different, to now if you fitted just the coilovers on the old vw bushes...

I paid over 400 for fk coilovers a while back, really hard ride, couldnt recomend them.

What does anyone else think of polys? Am I gonna need to start a thread on polys!?! I understand you have to be selective with which bushes you change for poly and which you leave rubber to sharpen things up without hardening the ride. I could do with knowing which ones. For example, I'm told you should change two of the engine mount bushes for poly and leave the other rubber to avoid vibration transfer (not that I'm doing the engine ones, that was just an example I've read about).

Anyone got good and bad experiences with poly bushes?
