Cold start carb problem

Yes, its that time again. Someone else asking for poo-berg advice!!

The car has been running fine recently even with the chilly weather, but today when I started from cold it really struggled. Cut out straight away 3 times meaning I had to hold the revs with my foot for 5 mins (revs all over the place). After I got the car rolling and warmed up the revs sat nicely at 750rpm...

Wax stat problem? I'm new to carbs and I can't really afford a weber (twin 40s in years to come!!) I'm a very poor student in the red!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Andy

go to a scrapyard, find a mk2 or early mk3 astra 1.4 or smaller. these are fited with a either a 2E2 or 2E3 carb. many have had manual choke conversions fitted. unbolt, refit to yours

Sounds promising. Would I have to change jets or chokes on it?

Id love to give it a good service really but ideally I'd want the car to be running after I'd had a tinker!!

Cheers

Andy

you don't need the whole carb, just the manual choke conversion. they seem to have been more widely fitted to vaux than to dubs for some reason

might be worth ringing some of the specialist vaux breakers (people like griffin salvage or dixons vaux, both in leeds) as the mk2's are getting a bit thin on the ground in scrappys

yeh, I found that out. Rang round a few and theres not much knocking about. Are there any service manuals for the pooberg do you know, maybe I could clean it up while I'm looking?
