i know someone selling an 2l ibiza 20valve non turbo, its been thrashed every day of its life and is in poor health however he is willing to sell it for scrap value and im wondering is it worth salvaging the engine and rebuilding it, or is it better to buy one in known good health and paying the premium? i wasnt planning an engine conversion but this seemd like a gud buy.

If im thinking of the right engine, you would have to do preety much the same to get a 20v turbo in there.
I know what I would prefer to put in

Not sure what the power output is, but it's not a great deal. You said it's been thrashed a lot, so would benefit from a rebuild before transplant, it would require engine mount fabrication as it won't just drop in, plus you'd have to consider the engine management side. If your going to that level of hassle you may as well fit the one with a turbo!
I think you'd be better off looking at 2l 8v or 16v engines, they drop in easily and there are several choices of fueling and management available.

i thought the bottom ends where the same as the 20vt's. If thats right you could find a good turbo head, rebuild bottom end. Money you save can go towards the rest, there must be a place where people are getting these mounts as there is a lot of A1 chassised cars floating around with the 20vt fitted

nah its gone to the great scrappy in the sky now. funnily enough tho ive bought a tidy mk3 golf 1.6 tdi instead so am gonna use that to run round in while i do some work on the rocko. gearbox and engine parts look identical so mite be a usefull source of parts.

the rocko is a daily runner and have been having a lot of problems of late so if i run round in this golf ive jus bought it will give me a chance to fix it up a bit. ie the downpipes bent courtesy of the local speedhumps causing it to blow at the manifold so ive ordered a new one, but just havent had time to fit it. ive got to find a way to secure my sub down as its rolling round in the boot and ive got to change the front pads. long term i would like to see if the deisel box will fit into the rocko for a lower reving top end, but it will more than like end up being a cheap runaround and spares source for the rocko(probly with a bit o moddin to fit

) ive been lookin at engine conversions but on principle i dont like deisels as much as petrol. but you cant argue with deisel mpg
