Since passing MOT and taxing on Thursday Ive been driving the car for the last two days.

However.......checked the filler cap today and there is a bit of "milky" residu on the cap.....Expansion tanke seems ok,not smoking so hope its condensation or something and not the head..... Check it tom if get chance to run it then off to mates garage to get a check early next week i think...... I replaced the water pump/thermostat when restoring the car and now hoping not got a massive problem....panic

Anyone had this before and it hasnt been the head and it cleared up???

Cheers

Its not uncommon to get sludge in the filler cap bud, especially now the weathers getting cooler and damper, and if the car has only been doing short runs for a while. If everything else is ok, then dont worry about it.

Perfectly normal for mayo mate, esp this time of year. As Mark says, older cars suffer from the damp getting in and around the head. Since you passed your MOT a few days ago too, would have thought your OK, a mechanic would have picked up on the gasket going surely?

yeah that sounds normal. castrol oils are notorious for this, just give the car a good run once in a while to burn off any exess build up of sludge. its only when you get sludge on the dipstick aswell as fillin the expansion tank every other day u know u have a problem.

To be honest i have only been driving to and from work for a couple of days which ist too far. So a nice run out is in order i think.

I have a catch tank fitted to mine,do a lot of under 10 mile runs, emptied it the other day,it was full of water, and sludge, don`t get mayo on oil filler cap,and the car runs fine. How much water/sludge is normal ? The tank holds about a litre, and had been on there a good 6 months

Hi mate, did exactly that this afternoon, Low Fell down to Durham, across the 690 to makem land and home.

It was class, firt time in 8 years had a rocco up to 90 and was effortless. And a clean filler cap when got home. Got some strange looks from people as I past them as well.....nice :chill:

Sound mate, perfect excuse for the Police, "I was just trying to get away from Sunderland Officer, that's why I was doing 90"!!!

Glad to hear it is going well, look forward to seeing it.

even with a blown head gasket, it is possible for the engine to run cleanly enough to pass the emission test, so would not be picked up on a test. it only covers safety stuff, not general engine health
