Just a helpful Tip

If anyone is considering fitting a K&N filter that gets rid of the original air box to their carb models then you may want to bear this in mind.

Noticed the other day that when i went round corners sharply and accelerated the engine would cut out (rather annoying as this i why i love my rocco).
Had a little play around in the engine bay and noticed that if i pushed the carb slightly it was sucking air in through the gasket. So i set about looking for a new one.
The next day on my way home i pulled out at a junction (not as fast as i normally would) and the car died and wouldnt start again.
Popped the bonnet open and this is what i found

So after a craftily wedging a piece of carboard between the K&N and the upper brace i slowly drove home.

I'd never realised that without the original airbox that attaches to the bracket on the front of the rocker cover there actually isnt anything bracing the carb at all, so its eventually rocked around enough to rip the gasket.

Nevermind, new gasket ordered from Crazyquiffs for half the price VW wanted and I'll have to fashion some sort of brace for the carb. In the meantime its lots of slow driving for me and hoping it doesnt tip over again before the new gasket arrives.

Just in case anybody else is silly enough like me not to think of these things. :stupid:
