Scirocco Register

I have owned my rocco for over a year now and I have'nt even done a project thread, well now I thought I will start one today.

Well I bought the rocco back on the 8th of June 2008
I bought the Scirocco off a company called Dubparts down in Fishbourne, West Sussex, he was selling it on Ebay where I saw it and it was on another website I think.

The bloke who I bought it off told me a story about this car so I thought I better share it with you all.
The rocco used to be owned by someone who owns a pub down near Fishbourne where I got the rocco and he bought it from new. So after he bought it he got a photo taken of the car and with the photo he put it on all the place mats and ect in the pub. Plus he has a bigger photo of the rocco behind the bar so that shows you how much he liked it. So the rocco sat out in front of the pub for years and got used occasionally. But in them years it started to deteriorate and got vandalized as someone ripped off the rear spoiler. One day the person who I bought the rocco off went in the pub and made the guy an offer on the rocco as he always wanted it when he walked passed it. So he accepted the offer and started on working on the rocco to getting it look half decent.

So he got it looking good and then put it up for sale so that is when I came along and saw the advert. I went down there and had a look round the car and he even put it up on a ramp so I could have a look under the car what was nice of him. After I had a look round I made an offer and he accepted, so the fun starts here. I did take it for a test drive and after that it made my mind up in a second, it was sooooo fun to drive.

When I got the rocco back I started work on it straight away, so first off I did a full serivce on it. Plus I put new distributer cap, rotor arm and leads on. Then a new cambelt and tensioner and a new rad fan switch as the fan stopped working lol. After that I sold my Mk2 golf driver so the rocco became my new daily driver and man it is very nice driving it everyday lol, I get to work with a big smile on my face. :D

I can't remember now where I got my rear spoiler but it was one of the two, on here or on ebay but here is a picture of the spoiler back on. It was easy putting it back too as the holes for the spoiler was only filled in with filler what was not good, so I managed to get the filler out. I did get a few bits fall down in the tailgate itself, but I was not fussed as I am getting a new tailgate.

got any interior pics Len?? That looks suspiciously like a CL interior from what i can see here. Probably wrong mind you...

No I have not got any pictures of my interior as it needs a retrim lol, but I had a look on Dr Dub's website and this is what it is. Not faded like mine lol.


Apart from I don't have the red dash and door trims.

Heres a list of work and modifications done so far:

Fitted Weitec Ultra GT suspension kit courtesy of Sean aka GTXTRA. So lowered it nicely to 25mm so not too low as it is a daily.

New spark plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap
New air filter
New cambelt fitted
New battery fitted
New number plates
New water pump and thermostat
New Radiator
New top and bottom radiator hoses
New sump and windage tray
New lower strut brace
New headgasket as it decided to leak oil from the right hand back corner leaking outside of the engine and running down, so the rocco made it's mark lol.
New heater matrix
Bought some very nice 15" P Slots on ebay already polished up
New tyres to fit the P Slots some nice toyo proxies T1-R's

Then on the 25th of March it went in for it's MOT and failed
Heres the list of what is failed on

1) offside rear fog lamp not in good working order ( I had to put in a new switch)
2) nearside front direction indicator not in clean condition and function impaired ( Got some nitromores to get the spary tint off lol)
3) offside front direction indicator not in clean condition and function impaired ( same as the other one)
4) Both sidelights wrong colour as they are blue lol so had the change the bulbs
5) offside rear seat belt retracting mechanism defective ( abit of wd40 sorted it lol as it got stuck)
6) Horn not a constant note (Bad connections on the horns and I got the second one working too )
7) front upper exhaust mounting missing (this is the b#@***d "c" clamp lol so I bought the tool of from a member on here)
8) Both handbrake recording little or no effort (adjusted the rear brake shoes but found out the rear wheel cylinders was leaking so replaced them aswell)

After all that I went for a retest
He nearly checked everything, it was just the brakes to test.
He tested one side no probs, so he is just testing the other side and all of a sudden pop one of my brake pipes burst I was not happy lol.
So I had to drive it back with no brakes, back to the workshop so that I can fit a new brake pipe and it was one from the front to back. I got back to the workshop and fitted the brake pipe.
The next day I took it back to get another retest luckly he did not log on the computer for the retest so that he did not have to do another test. It pased this time with no probelms and no advisorys

I bet your pleased with the result, it was a good job your brake pipe did not burst while driving on the road.

Yes I am glad the pipe did not burst out on the road, but hten it was scary getting back to workshop with out any brakes. Well I did have the handbrake, it was lucky I knew the road really well so I just used the gears.

Back in May last year I fitted a three gauge panel , so I bought some extra gauges on ebay. One is a voltage gauge and the other one is a vacuum gauge, then I had the one already in what is a oil temp gauge.

I had to cut out the ashtray to make it fit but apart from that it was not too bad to fit
I got a picture of the panel in place and the gauges in place.

Before I go to Dubs in the Park last year I had a mad rush to get it looking good, so went out and bought some new number plates and lots of polish and ect.
So fitted the number plates and got it polished up and ready to go.

Back in August last year I was driving back from work and when I changed gear I thought hang on the clutch is very light, so I pulled over and just had a quick look at the cable. On the gearbox end I saw the cable had only a few strands left of the cable I thought oh bugger I wonder if I can get home with it like it. So I chanced it and carried on home and I was lucky becuase the cable snapped just as I turned into my road so I was in second gear all the way. Luckly it was all down hill to, it was fun to stop when I got in the drive way. I just had to use the brakes quite hard to bring it to a stop and then it stalled as it was stuck in gear.

So I fitted a new cable and it was all fine so I can get to work.

Back in Septemeber I thought the nights are going to start to draw in quicker, so it would be a good time to do my headlight wiring upgrade.

To get all my wire and ect and build myself one up plus if I made one up it work out cheeper than buying one on Ebay
It cost me all of £29.72

My shopping list was
4m of Black/yellow thinwall 28/0.30 cable
4m of White/black thinwall 28/0.30 cable
4m of Brown thinwall 44/030 cable
1m of Red thinwall 44/030 cable
x2 4 blade relay's 12v 40amp
x2 interlocking relay sockets
x2 Headlamp terminal blocks
x4 yellow heat shrink ring connector 6mm
x2 splashproof fuseholder 30amp
1 packet of 10 fully insulated female blade connectors

Then I did buy some PIB self amalgamating tape what cost me £8.10
That is to wrap all the wires up nicely, it is alot better than just standard insulating tape.

After I got that on the headlights are amazing they are sooooo bright, I can't belive how much difference it made.

though it been scrapped as it was always there out side the pub with a 2nd scirocco
but that was 9- 10 years ago now time passed by quickly

There was two outside was there, I never knew that. What was the other scirocco parked next to it then?

It has been a very long time since I have posted anything up on my project thread, but now I have got more time and money. I have put lots of plans together and have now started getting things moving.

My plan is to strip it down to just it's bare shell, then send it to a body shop to get all the rust sorted. New panels fitted (new doors, tailgate, rear panel, nearside front wing and bonnet). Then have to shell taken down to bare metal, even under the car and then have it all painted again.
Don't worry it is going to stay in the same colour as it is lol.

Just a quick update, I got my rear seats back today from the guy who was re-triming them for me.
I am totaly thrilled with the finshed product, I know I could not get the same pattern as the old seats.
But I did find some material what was very similar and it does not look out of place.
