Which are the least common mk2 models in the UK.

Post by markh »

As title really, the models actually launched over here, rather than imported. Obviously the Storm had a limited run, CL's and GTL's are thin on the ground, but which others are there ?

Don't ask me....it was like that when i got here !

I'd say the GTS is pretty rare :-)

i'd reckon that any '82 models will by now be amongst the rarest due to having unique to that year engines - and the earliest 1.5 cl would have to be the favourite having been such a low volume seller.

then there is the question of what became of all the official 10 16v imports - there is the mars red one owned by a chap in west country called steve who i speak to every now and then and apptly the stripped out mk2 that does all the 1/4 days at Inters etc. is one too.

Must be the 1.6 GTI with quad lights. Richie soooo needs one of these in Mars red. When we start working full time again that is. :crying:

They were all left hookers mate - and as GTXTRA says only 10 were officially imported.

10 official 16v imports we think. Came in with UK spec lights and side repeaters.
VW/Alfa dealer Bell & Colvill converted 6 cars to rhd, what's not clear is how many of these were additional cars to the ten. See my project thread for A16 GTX to see a photo of one of the B&C cars.
Several personal imports, Duggers has one of those as does Heather of course.
Chap using name on old forum prwales has/had a converted car I think too.

prwales has one of the bell & colville cars, I met once many years ago at a show in the land of song.

I do know where a mars red 82 GTi is, not original any more though -I also know wherethe seats are from that car too

Its gotta be the 16v GTX, the CLs and the GTLs, Storms often come up for sale, due to the limited run owners tented to look after them, and there have been a fair few GTSs knocking about. As an example to back this up, the club has two GTL on file and one CL.

I've looked into accessing the data from SMMT that they get from the DVLA to finally get some clarification on numbers of Mk1 and Mk2s on UK roads, broken down by model. Lets just say we won't be using club funds to purchase a report anytime soon when I saw the pricing details for them to pull the data off in a report for us :swoon:

Until the cost comes down or we get an mole inside we'll just have to speculate...

How many of those all white scala's were produced? (the ones with white seats and wheels) I'm sure someone told me they were special edition? not to my taste though!

It's a pretty unique spec GTI too, but actually an import (from Germany, by a member of the RAF).
