hi there I have been coming to this site for a wee while now and was after some information on a 1985 Gt2 that was imported from Scotland quite some time ago, now my fuel pump is leaking some oil from the 2 small holes in the side, (this is a mechanical pump)the oil level is correct is there a way to stop this or do I need to get a new pump, it does pump ok but I hate the mess it is making. If i do need one where can I order one from in the UK? I can get my brother to send it to me....any help would be appreciated.

yeah ive got the same oil leak. its the plastic spacer between the pump and the block that is leaking. mine has a crack in it due to the heat from the block i think. new one with the seals is £6 + vat from volkswagon. mines comming tuesday

Mine leaks too, its a pattern part from GSF. I also replaced the large rubber flange that it sits on, but still leaks. Basically, I got some putty and rammed it all round the joint and no more leak.

Don't be tempted to get another pump unless its genuine, but definatly get a new rubber spacer/flange type thing :chill:

hi there my Scirocco is an 1985 Gt chassis no. WVWZZZ53ZFK012669 engine No. EW 020 370, it has a mechanical fuel pump running off the cam. THe oil is leaking from the side where there is a small hole on each side of the pump body. I have replaced the O-ring type seals on the spacer plate and pump. I also have some issues with the Pierberg carb but that can wait as well it could take some time. I have had the car now for a couple of years as a cheap daily drive, and am going to slowly help spruce her up a bit so I thought I would start with the one or two small oil leaks in the engine bay.

Nick, I think the holes are "tell tale" holes. As with most bits of engineering where two different fluids are in close proximity, in this case sump oil and petrol, there are seals on the moving parts of the mechanical fuel pump where it passes into each of the two chambers containing the fluids. The tell tale holes are put in an air chamber between the oil side seal and the fuel side seal, so if you have oil leaking out, your oil side seal has failed and if you have petrol leaking its the petrol side seal thats failed. Its there to prevent the two fluids mixing.

So, after that long winded explanation the answer is.........................Fit a new fuel pump!!
Hope that helps?
Rob
