I think I need a new downpipe as mines has rusted through and the center section has fell down.
Anyone know where I could get one from or can you get them custom made from stainless steel ?

You could buy them from GSF for about £30 I think. It was about 3 or 4 years since i did though.

there a pain in the ass just ask stugtx i have just had mine done same one as that for £75 fitted belive me its worth it unless you like f ing about with the c clamps

I've used one of these in the past to do the C clamps. Just turn the plate around so instead of doing the nuts up to tighten it, wind them down the thread to expand it into the C clamp and spread it apart. Its a bit fiddly but makes it very easy.



It's probably worth getting a new sealing ring to go on the manifold while your at it, if you can get a wire one. The solid ones don't seal well and squeak annoyingly!

How hard a job would you say it was then as I'm not bad with the spanners but I've not long bought the car and not too sure about everything yet

Probably about 3 hours including tea break. Hardest bit will be removing the snapped rusty bit out the mid section .

I found removing the clamps a pain in the @rse but when I had another go the next morning it wasn't too bad. Maybe I was trying too hard When I had to split my downpipe/centre section it was a ball ache and I was using hammer, gas burner, WD40 etc. Both are jobs that can be very time consuming and more difficult due to you lying under the car on your back with limited space. On a 4-post lift it would be a completely different job. I always forget to wear goggles untl after bits of rust/muck have already dropped into my eyes. Hopefully one day I'll learn from this

What he said - depending how rusted in the snapped rusty bit is - and what tools you are using to try to get it out - possibly double Tim's time estimate
