High idle and overrun

Hello, I'm now the proud owner of a mk2 gt2 1.8, with only 64000 miles :-D

basically, I have two problems:

the car idles at 2-3k, but settles at 1.5k when warm.

The other being that the engine overuns for a few seconds after I turn the ignition off. This doesn't happen all the time. About half, and I think it's mostly after long runs.

Any ideas? And also tips for what to give a service to get her at her best.

Thanks!

mine was doing this till a few days back.
idle problem was due to waxstat, and the overun was due to the timing out.

so change the waxstat, (very very easy)
and get the timing set (very easy with the right gear(timing light))

thanks for the advice.

i have a new waxstat and timing belt waiting to be fitted. do you know if there are any guides floating about on the net? im not having much luck finding them.

in fact if anyone knows where i can get and pdf haynes or bentley manuals that would be a treat!

thanks!

hey

no need for tutorials the waxstat is surprisingly easy to swap. but most importantly it seems to have done the trick and appears to have stopped my overun as well. bonus.
