Working on ze vehicle today and discovered this beauty of a repair job...

Image

Where the original panel has damaged, someone has welded a repair plate in place over the original panel.

Two problems:

1. No rust proofing was done to the repair so it looks proper shi*ty now.

2. The now double panel width means that the rubber grommet part of the clutch cable has become distorted, stretched, etc.

So I think the best course of action is to remove both the original and repair plate and weld in a replacement.

Can you buy a weld in metal repair plate or just the plastic stick on jobbies?

Am I just best off fabricating a repair plate myself?

You are best off fabricating your own plate to weld over and give it strength

Bulkhead is notoriosly weak and as its gone and been plated then your will have a large weak area and the repair plates will not hold that

If the metal's reasonably thick, I'd be tempted to clean it up and paint it. Depends if you're building a show car or not, really.

Not a show car, Mike. More of a track weapon that looks tidy!

I pondered this but the inside is pretty bad (not pictured)

I'd rather do it proper than have to revisit it x number of years down the line....

Do it nice or do it twice.
