Hi Guys

Thought I'd post a separate thread from my ongoing horn issue.

So I'm thinking I might wire in two new horns and keep the legacy horns with all the other original stuff.

My question is where do you get new connectors and cabling from? I have seen someone on Ebay selling every colour wire imaginable including the two toned stuff. What is the correct size wire to buy? They're selling 101 COLOURS TO CHOOSE FROM - 1mm² cable, 3m, 16.5A 12v auto car wire wiring.

I've no idea where to get those two pin connectors and associated pins etc.

The wire sizes are marked on the wiring diagrams - 1.0mm2 for the majority of the horn wiring.

As for specialist connectors, RS Online and CPC are worth a look, though the associated tooling tends to be expensive. Search "AMP crimp terminal housing" for example. I guess a lot of people use the usual general purpose insulated crimp connectors from Halfords, etc, although I don't like them personally.

Thanks for the information and sites guys. I’ve got myself a spade crimping tool, spades and white connector blocks. The crimping tool I’m struggling to find is the one for the fuse box plug pins, the round ones.

I have this type would they do the same job? They go down to 22 swg. Trying to save a bit of money here as I keep needing new tools for each job..

At first glance I thought not, but looking closer, I think that tool is even better, as it looks as though it crimps both parts of the terminal simultaneously. The pro versions of these tools usually run into hundreds of pounds.

I'm starting to realise the spiralling costs of a classic car I could try a test crimp to see if it does the same job.

I'm hoping to re-loom the horn cables in the engine as they're the cables that are breaking down. It shouldn't be a big job.

Solder it

Spade crimping tool was excellent but in order to crimp the round 3.5mm fusebox sockets I had to use pliers. It was made more difficult because the socket had two earths going into the one socket.
