Mileometer Proble.

Post by GTXGTXGTX »

My mileometer on works about 5% of the time. Eg on a 100 mole journey ony approx 5 miles would be recordeded. Would this be a cable issue or the mileometer itself? (Speedo works fine).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think this is the cogs inside the speedo unit. A common issue on mk2s - hence mileage should always be taken with a pinch of salt. There are a few how-to videos and guides on the internet - search for mk2 Golf odometer and you'll get a result.

Also, search "odometer" here and you'll find some old threads on the subject.

There’s a red cog on the end which can slip or crack over time. You can remove the cog and super glue it back on the shaft so it does not spin, worked for me when mine would stopped working.

There’s a few guides out there but here’s one.
