Hi all my name is ryan I'm new to the forum and looking for some help . I have had a mk2 gtx for some years now it's been stood in the garage and has been off the road 11years.
Now I'm getting it put on on the road and wanting some info on suspension what to use and not to use. I've been told BCs and gaz coil overs are really good but I think they start and just under 900 pounds and I'm not sure I'm looking at spending that just yet. I did see a shock and spring set up on Ebay. Eibach Lowering Springs, Bilstein Gas Shocks , Bumpstop Kit which were very reasonably priced.
Any help would be much appreciated as I don't no alot about suspension and don't want to put rubbish on.
Many thanks.

Re: Suspension question
Eibach and Bilstein are good.
The Bilsteins may well be just inserts, meaning you have to use your existing suspension struts. The top cap on the struts may not be removable. You will need to remove the struts to be able to check.

Re: Suspension question
I can also recommend the Eibach and Bilstein kit as running it on both my cars and pleased with the ride comfort, handling and ride height of the cars.

You do need the kit with the shorter bump stops or the car will bottom out.
When changing the suspension fit new top mounts, Febi are the ones to go for and fitting the gap with silicone or similar will make them last longer.

Bit more info on filling the gap and you can see what happened to my mounts (I’m also on the Mk1 Golf forum)

If you look at your front struts when it’s off the ground you should see a big nut just underneath the plastic dust cover, inside the spring and they you should be able to buy new inserts for the front and not the complete strut.
Post up a picture if not sure and we should be able to tell.

Re: Suspension question
I don't suppose you could put a pick up of your car to see how its sitting?
So this kit is ready to fit along as I fit new top mounts? Also you mentioned the kit with shorter bump stops do you get the option when purchasing .
Thank you for the reply it's much appreciated and it will certainly save me a few quid

Re: Suspension question
On another reply it says I would have to use existing suspension struts. I thought the kit would just fit to the car as is, the only problem i have there is that the car already has an old lowering kit on and I'm not sure how long it's been on, so I wanted a kit to fit straight on

Re: Suspension question
The kit in the link I posted needs some of the original suspension components to be able to fit, it does come with shorter bump stops, dust covers and new nuts for the strut top.
There’s some spacers, washers etc on the front and rear struts you need to reuse.
You will need to buy new front top sturt mounts.
Are you running on aftermarket coil overs or has someone just Ed fitted lowered springs?
Post up a picture if not sure.
I don’t have a Mk2 Scirocco so I guess it’s not much help to post a picture of how my Mk1 Scirocco or Mk1 Golf cabriolet sits on the ground?
