Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem basically I park my car up last night and noticed it was making a rattling noise coming from the engine bay as I put my car into reverse it was making the noise a bit louder I asked my mate to see if you can see where it was coming from in the engine bay but it was hard to point out anyone got any ideas? I have attached a video with the sound it is making it is a 1.4tsi 2012 plate
here is a vid of it making the sound

I'm no expert on engines, but I personally wouldn't drive the car until it's been seen by a specialist. A failing belt tensioner springs to mind as a possibility, which could cause sudden expensive engine failure if it's the timing belt tensioner that's on its way out.

Do you have the lead and software (Vagcom) to read the engine fault codes as it may tell you what’s wrong?

And as above I would advise not to drive the car till you have some idea what’s wrong.

Quick google (searched golf as lots of those around) and timing chain does get mentioned a few times but I’m not familiar with the 1.4 tsi engine as not owned one before so can’t be 100% sure.

Good point mark1gls. Any major faults detected would also be flagged up with at least an amber warning light - eg camshaft position sensor failed. Anything minor, maybe not. But with a strange noise like that, don't assume the absence of a warning light means it's safe to drive!

update the guy has looked at my car he said its definitely not the timing chain he said the noise is more a water pump problem was told £35 to have checked and looked at he said the sound is coming from the bearing below if it was the timing chain it would sound more on top then it coming from the lower of the car
going to get it booked next week and take it from there
so it rules out timing chain..........

Glad it's solved at hopefully not too much cost.
