MK2 Parts for MK1?

Peeps,
I'm currently breaking an 1986 Mk2 GTX and have a 1980 MK1 project in storage.
Just wondered if there's any gear from the MK2 that might come in handy for the MK1?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Just about all mechanical parts will fit a MK1 except fuel tank. All suspension, brakes etc. are the same.
Wiring loom/fuse box is totally different
Most of the fuel injection gear is similar too

I'd keep the steering column and pedals. Mk2 has a handy brake light switch mounted on the column whereas the mk1 has them on the master cylinder. Useful if you ever want to upgrade the brakes.
As above keep all the suspension bits - hubs, front struts, top caps, camber bolts - all hard to get hold of bits.
*if you have an unbroken set of front fogs from the GTX I'd be interested.

Cheers Mr Brown.
Sadly no lamps left. Is upgrading the brakes a 'big job'?
The brake lines on the Mk1 were cut during welding underneath.

Brake upgrades depends how far you want to go and how big your wallet is! My mk1 racer will have a (factory mk2 16v) 256mm set up whereas my newly acquired mk2 has whopping 304mm disks with MG 4-pot calipers!

Haha, going for it indeed!
I think I'll keep it simple, haven't got a lot of dosh. I'll see what condition the Mk2 parts are in and take it from there.
I've heard the original Mk1 brakes aren't great, mine has never run so I have no idea.

Mk1 do have smaller brake pads compared to the Mk2, the Mk2 callipers (VW II) will bolt onto the Mk1 and will help with stopping.
