Anyone know what this is?

Passenger side, in-front of battery. Under the front lip below bonnet. Does not seem to get any power on the multimeter and one of the clips have broken off.

I can’t quite see it in the picture but is it the size of a pack of polo mints?

If it is it should have the 2 yellow wires going to and it’s part of the side lights and not really needed, when you have the side lights (1st click on light switch) the little bulbs should be on and if the “polo mint” resistor is working the main bulb should also be dimly lit.

Here’s another picture.

Forgot to say in last post... the ignition needs to be in position 2 (dash lights on) for the resistor to work.

Yes thats it, doesn't seem to be getting any power, so might just cut the wires and tidy them into a chock box.

Ah, not noticed that before, so that is for the dim-dip headlamps - a UK-only quirk of the late 80s and early 90s. Arguably still a useful feature for driving on well-lit roads at night, or as an alternative to daytime running lights, but no longer a legal requirement and not part of the MOT.

You should get 12V between one of the wires and earth, but only when the lighting switch is turned to the first stop (sidelights) and the ignition is switched on.
