Scirocco Register

Hey up.

My car has the larger spline which I'm told is a small spline with a collar fitted and a spacer removed.

How do I remove the collar from my spline to revert it back to small spline? Also, what's the spacer like on the small spline models? I'll need to find something to use as one. Anyone got a spare?

I'll post this in "bodywork, trim & paint" too as it's interior related.

beat seven shades out of it with a cold chisel and the biggest lump hammer you can find. normally works

Heat and force or a bearing puller will do it

i've not had much luck with bearing pullers on these, as there isn't much to get the legs hooked onto. however you go about it, violence is the answer

Yes use a bearing puller... use the half moon attachments (has a thin lip to get behind the coller) and yes it is a bar-steward!, when you do get it off, you'll want to chop it diwn and put the back bit back on as a spacer... so the bearing keeps in place and the steering wheel doesn't jump at you all the time! ...mind you, prob depends on what steerign wheel kit your puttign on, I jsut changed to the original "scirocco" steering wheel.

So the spacer's actually part of the collar, not a seperate part? Don't suppose you want to lend me your bearing puller do you? I don't have one.

you could buy a small spline steering shaft ?

Is changing the shaft fairly easy? Easier than pulling the collar off?

umm i wouldent know as i havent done it before someone on here would probebly know i just thought it would advoid all this cutting to make a spacer
