compatible alternative engine

Post by AAZ1010 »

Hello folks, desperately seeking alternative engine for my VW Scirocco scala engine code DX. What other VW engines of that era are compatible ? I have been told a carb engine is not compatible and would require a lot of work - need to get an injection engine say from a mark 2 golf. Any thoughts ?
Thanking you in anticipation
Andrew

A carb engine (EX 1.8 or 1.6) would be very little work, probably the easiest direct swap, second only to another DX, JH. But there wouldn't be much point as they're slower.

So many engines will fit in the A1 chassis with no modification. That's any engine from a mk1 scirocco, mk2 scirocco, mk1 golf, mk1 caddy, and many other VW/ VAG engines from this era and beyond are supported with dozens of conversion mounts, specialist looms, driveshafts etc.

It really depends what you want.

If the head is ok or can be refurbished you could just get an engine block then you can use a carb engine or a Mk1 or Mk2 golf engine or even a 2.0l engine block from a mk3 Golf.

A Mk2 golf GTi engine will fit as they used a DX engine till about 1988ish then they changed the fuel injection system to digifant (PB engine code I think) but the engine block is the same or a Mk1 golf cabriolet GTi used a DX till about 1992, very early cabriolets used a 1.6 engine.

One on eBay but looking how it’s stored and taken apart it may need a full strip down and check but I could be wrong...
