Scala Hoses - Help!

Evening all,

mark1gls over in the parts forum has just confirmed a niggling doubt I had in my head...that the vacuum hoses in my Scala are not right.
As this is my first Scirocco (I've only had her around a month, and not yet driven), it's not immediately obvious what is wrong and what isn't, aside from some very dodgy looking connectors.

The vacuum hoses, inlet manifold, airbox, metering head are all currently out of the engine bay to be repaired, refurbed, replaced, so now is an ideal time to get this back to how it should be.

So I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on the following:
  • Any pointers on what is currently wrong would be greatly appreciated.
  • Is it possible to get a complete set of hoses and connectors for the Scala? As many of these have perished anyway.

In the meantime I'll be doing some bedtime reading of Haynes. Many thanks for any help!

Thanks mate, but I believe my coolant hoses are mostly ok, it's mainly the vacuum hoses that are all over the shop.

One of the sources of the birds nest has been discovered.

And have a few more pieces arriving, so should have the hoses all replaced & correct soon I hope.

thats a common failure part, but believe it or not you can salvage it with a hypodermic syringe.. big bore needle from craft shop push into the broken pipe, and glue. the wider bore then accepts the vacuum pipe. Mark carter at classic-vw.co.uk had a stock of those valves, think are universal upto mk3 golf.
