GOOD COILS AND SHOCKS SUGGESTIONS

Post by EDDIE-F »

After nearly a year of using my VMAXX coil overs, with adjustable damping and ride height. Winding them up and down and setting the adjusters in an out. I have decided they are pretty dreadful. there just so uncomfortable whatever you set them at. Also as described by other forums. They have a tendency to bounce on rebound on undulating road surfaces. had enough of them. i paid over 600 pounds for them hoping I could tune the ride to a firm but tolerable feel. But no, they are dreadful rubbish. So I want a small amount of lowering and a less bone jarring ride. I would like to go back to springs and shocks rather than coil overs. Any one running suspension that feels like a modern car?

I’ve been very happy with this kit, smooth enough ride on bumpy roads and still stiff enough when pushing it. Slightly lower than standard ride height.

Got the kit on both my cars...

Not sure if you still have your original front strut housing but you will need them for this kit as the front shocks are just the insert.

I used this kit off of eBay, arrived (from Germany) in 2 days!
I went for 40mm lower. Ride is a little bit firm, but not bone shaking.

Standard ride height kit is also available

Hi

I was running TA Technix coils for a summer and they were crap. Just really hard and horrible.
Switched to AP Coils and almost perfect. Not that hard but still sporty enough. Price wise 500€ a set. AP Coils are KW V1's but blue colour :-D

Another vote for AP if you can get the fully adjustable ones in particular, looks like height adjustables only these days - https://www.venommotorsport.com/product ... ion/SU244/

The Weitec ones are sadly no longer listed, they were excellent.

And look out for deals on these - https://www.venommotorsport.com/product ... n/SU27344/

I got a set for my Corrado VR6 last year on a deal where Variant 2 was availble at Variant 1 prices. Very supple.

Konis for the suspension combined with a set of Weitec or Eibach springs.

Ok so I took the consensus of views over the past weeks and decided to order a set of bilstien shocks and eibach springs as a set of of Larkspeed. Turns out, as was said by others on this thread. I need some of the original parts. Such as spring top cups and the original front strut towers to put my new bilstien shocks into. I thought I could by these easy but turns out the ones I have seen so far are crimped shut not screw top. So I am a bit boned. Got the spring top cups now but anybody know where I can get unscrewable front struts? Or as a last resort have some lying around? My car is a scirocco mk2 . Ed

Thanks mark1gls. After a lot of searching prior to seeing you reply, I stumbled on the same supplier. I bit his arm off even at 75 each plus 11 shipping. blueshark offered me some as well. My local supplier says Sachs do not make them anymore.

All the Eibech coils and Bilstien b8 shocks I got from Larkspeed now fitted. Used the new front strut housing I got from Crazy Quifs. Had the front end tracking and camber adjusted by Protyre Ashford . My car now handles, rides and steers like a proper modern feeling sport coupe'. I was starting to lose the faith but now my enthusiasm for my Scirocco is back. Time to fit my rear louvre now.

Good to hear you are happy with the set up, the wrong coil overs can wreak the handling and comfort of such a light car like the Scirocco.
