fuel filter

Post by captainwow15 »

hey guys,

just replaced the fuel filter in my long line of fault finding and run the car, it seems a bit better but ive filled up with 98ron petrol and put in some dry-run stuff at the same time so not sure whats made it better i was wondering if the fuel filter in the engine bay should be full when running as when its idling low down it has about a quarter full of petrol but when its at fast tickover it has virtually none.
an rac guy said it could be one of many things but he said it could be a problem with the fuel pressure as his scirocco did it years ago.
the main problem is that at around 4000rpm in 4th and 5th it just sort of instantly reaches its power limit and won't go any faster, it used to misfire and the power would slowly drop down but now it just sort of stops getting power with a small jolt.
does that sound like it could be a fuel problem?(my breather pipe isn't connected and its leting crap into the tank(going to get it sorted as soon as i can))
any ideas how to check if ive got a decent pressure?

Mine was doing that and it was a fuel problem. Its not always shit in the filter it can clog the sender and pipes up, i had to carry a footpump with a funny atatchment that made it fit onto fuel lines and spare fuel filters for a week before i got round to changing rusty tank and filler neck.
The odds of your fuel pump goin if its carb are rather low, just a simple mechanical thing.
Once you stop the shit getting into your tank youll have to drain the fuel out the flexi pipe and filter it.
