STORM REGISTER

I am sure this must gave been done before but i cant find any records

So im asking the Register whether it would be ok to get members to send me details of their storms so we can build a Register. Ive heard of a few in recent years that have been written off or parted out and the remaining must be dwindling rapidly.

Initially ill start with the Mk2s and then work on the Mk1s.

Is there no way of checking the DVLA database on current vehicles or type?

I think I recall at one point on here someone referencing how may GTX's the were left in the UK via some online tool.

With plenty of other things going on - and I'd imagine we can't just share data with people anyway - this isn't really a priority tbh.

We'll be at the NEC Classic in November - see the links on the main website - where the loose collective of me, Will, Heath and hopefully Jimmy will be in attendance and available to chat directly.

Thanks

The current figures on howmanyleft are from DVLA records as at Q4 2018, likely 31 December.

Drilling down these figures, the number of Scirocco Storms on DVLA records by year of manufacture are:

1977: 0 licensed, 1 SORN
1980: 0 licensed, 8 SORN
1981: 6 licensed, 46 SORN
1984: 15 licensed, 66 SORN
1985: 6 licensed, 11 SORN
2004: 25 licensed, 1 SORN (of which 17 licensed and 1 SORN are automatics)

The high number with SORN for the 1980-85 cars will partly be due to those off road just for the winter - figures for Q2 would probably show more licensed.

DVLA define the year of manufacture as the calendar year in which the vehicle was first registered, unless it was declared not new when first registered.

The figures for 2004 are clearly nonsense (26 left out of 561 originally registered for that year). My suspicion is someone at VW submitted a batch of new registrations to DVLA in 2004 using the wrong model code.

The clue that the information is wrong in 2004 is there was no automatic made with the fuel injection engine, all auto are carbs....

Thanks for all your replies. From GT_11s helpful research ignoring 2004 anomalies it is plain to see how few are potentially left. Understand the constraints of data protection etc, as GTXtra says, herefore i have started a facebook group for all members interested in or owners of any Scirocco Storm (any mark). The group is called VW Scirocco Storm Register if anyone wants to join. Bear with me as I've never started a group on facebook before.

Just to add in, as Sean (GTXTRA) pointed out I can't give you the details of the owners due to data protection rules

However I can tell you there are 23 Storms currently subscribed as club members of which 13 are MK1's and 10 MK2's (One MK2 is in the USA)

Will. :-)
