I can't remember if there are meant to be any lights to illuminate the heater controls area when the lights are on. Mine is all dark at the mo.

Your goddamn right there should be!
Mine didn't work either, you can take the back off the control facia but I understand it to be a little fiddly. I just got another one from eBay for 99p.

My handbrake light did that! Tried bloody everything to get the bugger to work, then just fixed itself!

Voodoo.
It has to be Voodoo powering the interior electrics on these things.
Off on a tangent I'm going to be pretty much going through the wiring with a fine tooth comb over the dark season. I've never been happy with how random everything appears to be around the fuebox and the nice chap that fitted the alarm system was equally messy. Cue a raging case of OCD.
I'll do my usual and take a shed load of pics, hopefully it'll explain a lot of the more common problems.

i've found 2 different versions of the heater panel. one has the bulb built in, and is designed to be replaced as one unit when the bulb fails, the other has a pull out bulb, much more sense :) probably got some hiding in the murky depths of the shed.
