Heres A Good One For You!

Right, the Golfs battery had died a week back so had to jump start it. She fires up and the indicator lights on the drivers side came on.

Odd thought I, so I took out the fuse for the indicators, they stayed on. Took out the side light fuses, they stayed on. Said some choice Anglo-Saxon, they stayed on. Had a quick prayer, they stayed on. Turned the indicator stalk both directions and all that happened is they bloody stayed on. :ire: :dash:

So I'm left with just removing the bulbs as a tempory fix (which is cool as the car isn't on the road at the mo) but what could the cause be? Car was fine untill the tax ran out at the end of July, just done it since I jumped her this morning.

Please guys, any help would be great. Electrics ain't really my thing :help:

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Is there any alarm/immobiliser fitted? These can often cause strange things to happen with the lights. Otherwise I'd suspect an earthing problem.

Doh! Forgot to mention that, there is one fitted indeed. I believe it to be an original VW one fitted from new too. Was gonna get rid of it anyways, don't fancy the reliability of a 22 year old alarm.

If it's not the alarm, try changing the hazard warning switch. I had a similar problem with FECKO, where one side was on constantly even with the ignition off, changed the hazard switch, and it sorted it. :training:

Double doh, I forgot to mention that, with the hazard switch on, both sides light up but dont flash. Unplugged the switch and still the drivers side stayed on.

Sorry boys, I really should give more info.......

Assuming that it's not the alarm Alex, my next guess would be the flasher unit then bud, unless of course there's something your not telling us , like "yeh, I've checked that"!!!!!

Ahhh, now when the car was running, the indicators didn't make the "click" noise when they were in operation, which was odd. Halfrauds it is tomorrow then!

Where does the unit go please bud?

Ta for the help :beers:

relay space 12 is the indicator relay.... the number on the relay its self should be 21

(space 12 is the bottom right hand side, as they start at number one top left, 6 across, next row down, then first row about (add on pack goes from 13 to 18, then (if applicable) there a second add on set goign from numbers 19 to 24... note some of these spaces may npot be used, and some may have single or double fuse holders for things like fogs.

hope that helps Alex.... what goof you got? I've got the Mk2 GTI :-) ..not on the road atm, might have to put it on soon though as the roccos got to go off the road while i fit hte new rear axel (I know i can do it in a da, but i want an excuse to drive hte golf!!!

...whens the next meet in brum mate?

Jay.
