Right ...
So I got the car back from the garage ..
Went in with a high rev and not idling .
Has now come back spullerting when I put my foot down.. gets to 3000rpm and just splutters. As if there is a blockage or something! Really not sure
..
And still not holding a on idle.
The matey who had it replaced the throttle body.
Tweaked the timing to 4 degrees
Played round with the fuel and air mix..
Adjusted distributor
I dont know what's wrong with this car ..
Any help ppl as I am almost into the 1000s with this ..
Thanks

Re: Scirocco gtx not idling and splutters
It sounds as though it has an underlying problem when has been compensated for with the adjustment of the mixture screw and the idle screw.
Firstly I would check that the auxiliary air valve (mounted to the inlet manifold) has a 12v supply to it when the engine is running. Also, with a warm engine, pinch the hose, the engine speed should not change.
The symptoms you have do sound similar to an issue I had with mine - long story short for now, the Warm Up Regulator (WUR) was seized. To determine this you could strip it down to inspect it. But to avoid jumping to further conclusions, you really need to get the injection system pressure and control pressure checked with a fuel pressure gauge. Due to the seizure of the WUR, my control pressure was really low, this meant that it could be adjusted to run ok, but would either have starting issues and stuttering and flat spots around 3000rpm, or high idle and the power was really high in the rev range.
Gauges can be picked up fairly cheap from ebay/Amazon, but I found they don't always have the right metric fittings.
Depending on where you are located, someone may be able to help or lend you a gauge kit.
If you do need parts, there are a couple of specialists in the UK, but I bought my rebuild kit from K-jet Specialists in Australia (on ebay and Facebook), I had to wait a bit longer for delivery but the kit was more comprehensive and actually cheaper in comparison to some other sellers.

Re: Scirocco gtx not idling and splutters
Let’s start with the basics.....
What’s the fuel filler neck like, any holes/rust you can see when you remove the filler cap and shine a torch down it?
What’s the inside of the fuel tank like?
Is the fuel pump noisy or got noisier?
What fuel, super or normal unleaded and what/how did you set the timing to?
When was it last given a full service, fuel filter, dissy cap, rotor arm, HT leads, spark plugs, air filter, oil change etc...?
What happened just before the high rev/not idling?

Re: Scirocco gtx not idling and splutters
Thanks for your reply guys .. sorry for taking this long to reply.
So ... I have currently got this engine striped down .. I am taking off the current throttle body as it has a air leak and replacing with a new one. Replacing the manifold. I noticed that the distributor connections were actually burning out. .. so I think the distributor is one of the faults also as once I cleaned it up it stop that splutter slightly ( new distributor but I think cuz its cheap). So will be replacing that. Car has had full service. Putting a new oil pump on aswell. Going to remove all parts fuel system etc and give everything a good clean . I will also be adjusting the timing to its correct degree of 6.. guy in garage put it as 4 as he reckoned it would compensate for the shit fuel available these days ( his words not mine ). I will let you guys know how it all goes. Thanks so much for your help and time guys. Please keep on posting your thoughts it is helping massively.

Best the run the car off super unleaded when you set the timing up to 6 degrees, the timing needs to be retarded to about 0 degrees to run off normal unleaded petrol.
You can tweek the timing a little once it's up and running, mark the dissy shaft for a starting point then advance the timing till the engine "Pinks" under load when driving then retard timing a little till it stops "pinking". I don't use a timing a light just get it some where near by listening to the engine when the car is on the drive then take it out to a quite road and even better if you can find a slight hill to drive up and drive with the window open and your head out listening out for "pinking" and feel how it pulls up a hill. To put the engine under load 2nd or 3rd gear at 1300 rpm the slowly press the accelerator towards to floor...

Re: Scirocco gtx not idling and splutters
Yes it’s an Allen key to adjust the fuel mixture on the metering head.
Word of warning... only adjust the mixture once everything else is spot on, eg timing etc and car nice and warm. If you have a CO gauge all the better as you want 2% CO.
Be carful sticking an Allen key in there as it presses against the flap so be carful not to press down to hard.
I think is a 3mm Allen key, you will need a long one to reach all the way down the tube.

Re: Scirocco gtx not idling and splutters
Thanks for all your help guys ... found out the warm up regulator was the cause of the problem.. the moment I timed it correctly the car just stall.. when I put another wur on it runs perfect now.
