Cv joint failure

So it looks as though my cv joint has failed (front near side). It's been knocking for a while but I didn't know what the problem was. Finally worked out what was wrong today but probably too late for repair. The knocking is really loud now, and each knock is accompanied by the steering wheel rotating by about 15 degrees (if I take my hands off the wheel), and the noise happens even when I'm driving straight.
I'm guessing this will mean replacement. Does anyone know if this is a major job? Will parts be a problem?
Any advice gratefully received. I'm not going to do the work myself but it would be great to have an idea of how bad it is. Thanks!

Not really a hard job,

Drive shaft out is best, 6 bolts on the diff flange 1 big one in the hub. Take cv boot off, put driveshaft in a vice, hold cv straight and tap the back of it firmly with a hammer to move it forward off the driveshaft.

You will need to check the teeth on the drive shaft to see if they have been rounded

The big nut holding the hub on (in the middle of the brake disc) is done up very tight, you will need to have the car on the ground and someone pressing the brake pedal while you undo the nut. Most wheels you can remove the centre cap and see the nut.
I use an old big torque wrench and a 6ft scaffolding bar slotted over the torque wrench, best to get a 6 sides deep socket, I think it’s a 30mm but not 100% sure...

Something like this but check the size.

Always fit a new nut as you can only use them once.
