Is there a knack to fitting those? I'm fighting between the scraper seal (part of the door card) , getting the door lock pin through the hole, and clipping it in the lower edge holders. Every time I try there is a 1/2" gap at the top near the quarterlight window :x

Yes, pretty awkward, but not as hard as locating all the fixings for the "A" pillar trim on my 2011 VW Caddy!

You have to locate the top edge first, under the door mirror fixings cover and over the door locking pin rod, ensuring metal spring clips locate properly along window scraper. From memory, I think you start at the door lock pin end, but I may be wrong. Once all located at the top, gently flex the bottom edge of the door card upwards to ease into the lower edge holder slots.

There are no "metal spring clips" on the inside, only on the outer scraper fixing, the entire scraper sits on the edge of the inner door metalsheet.

I found on my late gt_ii there were two or three metal spring clips attached inside the top edge of the door card, which I think engaged with the edge of the scraper, can't remember the detail, but pieces of the "jigsaw" that needed to be lined up to get everything in the right place after renewing the electric window switches earlier this year. Of course, I discovered in the process, there was no need to remove the door cards for this job, but that's all part of the learning process!

i think whats happened to gt_II is the scraper has separated from the door card hence metal clips.
normally the door card and scraper stays clipped together and is unhooked from the inner door skin like joost says,
if you have a gap at the top then something isnt aligned properly

I've just looked at a couple of door cards for sale on ebay and they have 5 metal clips attached to the inside top edge. My memory was these attached to a flange on the door scraper, but perhaps they attach to some other protrusion in the vicinity of the door scraper. However, metal clips along the top edge of the door card there certainly are!

You mean the metal clips which are placed on the inside of the door card.
These are normaly clamped into the "cardboard" door panel.
The inside windowscrapers clicks into that.
The inner door scraper is then palced over the inner edge of the door.

I found the problem, the inner window seal was bad. I posted pictures on the FB, but in short, the felt lined part had detached (old old glue) from the main plastic strip, and been pushed in the wrong place

Also one of the metal clips which is attached to the cardboard was found to be broken too, does anyone have a solution to replace those?
