New Owner - 87 Scirocco 16V

Greetings,
My name is Aquadelic and I drive a 1987 Scirocco. This is my first post so I figure I ought to give a backgrounder.
This is my first Volkswagen. After falling in love with Karmann Ghias (Dad used to ice race them here in Canada during the 70s/early 80s), I knew one day I'd get my hands on a VW with similar heritage, rarity and specialty. I picked the Scirocco up 3 weeks ago and I literally can't stop grinning when I drive her. Once I bought a Scirocco, Corrados became ugly. Bias is a funny thing, in'it?
Kidding, they're all great.
I'm into the Scircco for the long haul. That's what I said with my first "dream car" and 10 years later, I still have that and will never separate from it. So I feel the Rocco reminds me of that car (even though they're completely different). Its an old school Ford but I'm not sure if you guys are into those or not.
The Good:
- She's a pocket rocket, an absolute blast to drive
- It has the 16V engine (and a 5-spd transmission), but it was replaced with a similar 2.0 16V variant - I think its a 9A but I've had difficulty determining the serial number as the block is corroded (I did find the 2.0 stamped on it though). The previous owner says its from a Passat and had the top end rebuilt.
- Clutch, suspension and brakes all feel solid and no odd noises.
- Floors underneath and body are solid, hardly any rust besides some surface rust on body.
- Interior is complete aside from the cubby/under dash trays for both driver/passenger.
The Bad:
- A/C is installed but doesn't work - the compressor has an electrical socket and I can't determine what wires are supposed to go to it.
- I pop the hood using a series of zip ties - proper cable is on order.
- The hatch can only be unlocked from inside the car using a screwdriver.
- The voltmeter light decides when it wants to illuminate. It didn't light, then worked for two days, then stopped lighting again. Gauge itself works fine.
- Clutch pedal is stiff, new cable is on order.
- Paint was faded to almost pink. I polished her for 5 hours and she came out red (photo). A few more polishes and perhaps I can delay painting for a few years.
With exception to my uncle who owned two Sciroccos, I haven't seen any on the road over here in years. I'm glad I jumped on the opportunity, and I'm happy to have found a community like this. Hope you guys like my ride, I can't deny I like the euro headlights and slim bumpers that you have across the pond.
