It's a vacuum reservoir, ideally it should be refitted to avoid running issues. There is a green one on eBay, but I'm sure someone around here may be able to help you out.

The vacuum reservoir is often removed if the original Pierburg carb has been replaced with a Weber. Check If you have a manual choke and the airbox is held down with an allen bolt. These are signs you have a Weber conversion.

Yes it’s still listed in cars for sale, low mileage car that one.

I think I’ve seen the car a few times at the national meet..

If the car is running ok with out the green ball don’t worry about it, not really sure how it works as I’ve never had one fitted to my Mk1.

As WreckTangle says, unnecessary with Weber carb.

The car was owned by Rob, a guy local to me, always well maintained.
He sold it very cheaply to someone who 'wanted it for my son' who then promptly advertised it at a grossly inflated price. Not illegal. but morally questionable. Pity you didn't buy it from Rob. Lovely colour.

Agree on the colour, but I'm a bit biased

Yep was mine, anything you want to know just ask. Be interested to know what you paid for it though!

The weber fitting guide tells you to remove the sphere so dont worry about it at all.

The guy you got it from seems like a bit of a... C u next Tuesday if he lied to get it so cheap
