Gearbox failure advice needed

Post by Jack92 »

Hey guys...

As some of you are aware after the cobham meet the other day my car managed to jam in gear and after I has no second gear at all and the car kept locking into different gears..

I have very little experience when it comes to boxes but my guess is it’s dead lol.

Anyway just got round to looking under the car and it appears there is oil everywhere, I’m guessing front the box/driveshafts.

I have also taken a picture of the markings on the box

Says 020 and there is a 13 towards the bottom of this section aswell.

What would be people’s advice? Change the gearbox out? And if so what box should I actually be looking for? Which image is the one I need haha.

Sorry got my lame experience but never had issues with a box before.

Thanks in advanced

It's usually the diff rivets that go on 020 'boxes, and also results in a hole in the casing. Sounds like failed selectors or the debris from something else breaking up.

Worth a read here, lists of codes at the bottom of the page too, in case you need to source another unit with the same ratios:

That’s a AGU gearbox, the other numbers with the 3 letters are the build date.

The black grease on the brakes and inner wheel looks like CV joint grease as that’s black, have you checked the CV boot clip is tight or CV joint ok?

I’ve had a few outer CV boots split and it does exactly what happens to your car?

Hey mark,

Thanks for getting back to me, I forgot to update the post I’ve managed to get a gearbox now and going to check the boots once it’s on a ramp,

I did have a look and they seemed fine. I think the diff seal has given up but soon we shall see lol
