another bloomin problem

hey guys, after sorting out the not starting problem i've come across another problem which is that it now misfires and then cuts out. it did this before when i put my foot down and seems to be the same again. one thing ive just checked is the filler neck, it appears to have a bit of crap in it (muck/grit) ive felt around and found the pipe coming off the filler neck into the wheel arch(breather pipe) isn't actually connected to the filler pipe and can just be moved around freely. could this be causing my misfire?
also wondered if anyone knew the plug gap distance so i can check them with some feeler gauges?
it seems to only happen after about 2 miles of driving and when i accelerate faster than normal.

cheers
andy

plugs should be gapped to 0.7mm iirc. that's assuming they look like this:

if they look like either of these, then you're not meant to re-gap them. if they look badly burnt away, get them changed.

if you're not convinced they're in good order, or if they look old (badly rusted on the outside) the electrodes are badly burnt away or you've got any other reason to doubt them, stick some new ones in there. go for a decent brand - genuine VW, bosch, NKG or beru. cheap ones will let you down quite quickly. same goes for the rest of the ignition components.

to be honest though, i think you're probably looking at a fuelling fault. get the rear wheel off, clean and thoroughly check the top of the filler neck. if it has rusted badly (even if it's not holed) then get the tank opened up and check it for rust and/or water
