I've been thinking about it for ages, but haven't come up with anything solid. I'm not a big fan of this oem solution. Has anyone made something custom?

As I said before, I don't like this oem solution and I want it to be easily removable.

It sounds like you are planning on taking it out every week

You could drench the one you have in right now with polyester raisin and make it a solid one.
Turning the car upside down will make it a lot easier, then cut it out and you can do wiht it what ever you want.

My current headliner didn't come off very easily, so it's pretty much unusable.
Turning the car upside down and making a new headliner with fiberglass crossed my mind, but I don't like the "turning the car upside down" part.
I believe modifying Golf mk2 headliner would be the best bet?

The only problem I can see using a Mk2 headliner is it's a very common problem in Mk2 golfs for the headliner to droop or material to come away so you may just get the same problem???

Golf headliner isn't bolt on solution. I think I have to strip it, make it shorter and narrower, reinforce it with fiberglass and raisin and then glue on fabric or vinyl.

why not just take the whole lot down and paint the inside of the metal roof white?
or even use fuzzy accoustic carpet and glue to the metal panels? thats what im planning on doing on crusty

Can deliver some 'bonnet lining' material for you to cut to fit in the roof between the reinforcement parts.
Maybe some other sound deadening material as well.

No problem, just ask.
Measure from let to right and front to back, if I remember 3 pieces,
and I can have them cut exact or with some oversize for you to cut to fit 100%.

I did it. Well... not yet, but I’m on my way. I made a fiberglass so called frame of a Sciroccos roof. Bought a mk3 Golf headliner, slightly modified it and used it as a mould to make one from fiberglass. Merged them and that’s about it. Still a lot of work to do but nothing too hard.

Good idea the fibreglass panel. Let us know how you get on.

Due to various reasons it took way longer, but it's done.
