When the Corrado arrived in the UK in mid-1989 it was powered by VW's plain 136bhp 1.8litre 16V engine and cost £17,000. A Golf GTI 16V cost £13,000 and the Scirocco Scala £11,600.
As in price as Bloke from volk bits explained to me some years ago on the telephone a MK 2 V.W Scala 1800 Injection 8v where fifteen thousand pounds brand new is this true peoples ? As this all the information I can find out about the price new on the internet

i'd have guessed under 10k. even petrol was cheap back then

Definitive proof. Although I daresay the op will still find reason to doubt.
This from Feb 1991 What Car magazine "New Car" section
I love the fact that the Corrado 16v was nearly 50% more expensive yet was slower (WAYYYYY slower) than a Scala from 50-70.
