Just took off the wishbones and one of the captive bolts that holds the rear bush in place has sheered, haven't rolled back the carpet yet (bit pissed off) but I was wondering if it is easily accessed or well hidden.

could you drill it out and thread a bolt in instead?
turn the captive bolt into a captive nut

Good thinking, yes if there is enough metal inside there it's a good possibility and it would save lifting the carpets. Cheers for that mate.

You could drill it out and use a rivnut (Nut inserts). not sure if they are strong enough for that application though.

Or threaded rod and weld it, or like James said

im pretty sure if you remove the rear lower seat and the foam side bit u can see the top of the captive bolt. I would drill it out and then fit a high tensile bolt get a friend to hold the top while you torque from the bottom or tack weld it in place. Rivnuts would not be strong enough, neither would tapping, in my opinion.

Its the bolt at the front of the car, holding the back of the front wish bone and front anti roll bar (if you have one) to the car, not the rear beam to the car.

Agh Mis read. I'd still say that tapping or rivnut is iffy.

Yeah, definitely don't try and tap it, I think you'd only end up with 2 threads. But don't think anyone's suggesting that.

Personally i'd drill it out and weld a bolt in from the top.

Thanks James, drilled and tapped it, the thickness of the steel I tapped into is about 12mm thick the nut that originally held it on is about 8mm thick so class that as job done. Thanks all for your input.

Good to hear you have sorted it, smear a little copper grease over the thread to stop it rusting in years to come.

You are talking to the converted here, I smear copper grease over any nut and bolt I remove, saves a lot of work in the future.
