Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.
A few forum members have got a rocco 1.8T (chaps spirings to mind…)
There are useful build threads on the mk1 golf Forum – check it out…
http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php ... age&pid=39

As for brakes – how deep are your pockets…

Common upgrades include uprating the standard 239mm discs to 256mm or 280mm set ups, but there are other options…Mr Funk has got Wilwoods on his rocco.

Servo and Master cylinder upgrades are also recommended – as are stainless steel braided hoses (Goodridge for example)

Good luck with it

Hi and welcome..
You may want to use the search function in the title bar and try "20v" or "1.8T". There is quite abit of info knocking around on this site. I can give you some more detailed pointers if you need, or should i say "I can try!!" :yup: In some of the other threads other members have asked similar questions and I am sure there is a few helpful links embeded in them too.

Here is a good starting point for a Guide to carrying out this conversion. Its based upon a Mk2 Golf, but I presume the only difference would be the engine mounts and maybe driveshafts. http://www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide.html

My car is running the 280mm G60 brakes on the front, mk2 golf 16v rear disks, and upgraded braided hoses all round. It stops ok, but I am defo going to go for the servo and MC upgrade when i get round to it and change to some fast road pads.. G60 brakes are the same as early Mk3 GTI/VR6 brakes (not the later 288mm versions found on cars >96 i think), its just the disk that is different. You will need some adaptors to fit them tho i think. I have some of these calipers if you need them.

Are G60 not 4 stud and mk3 GTI/VR6 5 stud though?

Maybe i wasnt clear before...
The G60 and MK3 GTI/VR6 calipers are the same, its just the disks that are different. 4 stud for G60, 5 stuf for GTI/VR6.

Ryan, you got me thinking so i had a look around... to do a 280mm Brake Conversion on a Rocco or Mk1 Golf you need:

280mm brake Calipers & Carriers off any of the following vehicles-
mk3 ibiza cupras
passat gt's
corrado g60
golf g60
golf rallye
mk2 ibiza 2l 16v
mk3 GTI & VR6 <96

Brake Adaptors like these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-MK1-Go ... 286.c0.m14

Disks off a Corrado G60.

One Brake Conversion - DONE!!! hahaha.

hi thanks to every one who has replied so far.
im doing this conversion on a budget, my intention is to get a 20v turbo passat cheap and remove as much as need from the donor car and the rest will be gathered up from the scrapyard.
i am a profesional car body repairer and im handy with a welder to make up new engine mounts but when it comes to the rest of the mechanics im a bit useless, i intend to fit the hole wiring loom and dash out of the donor car to get around the imobiliser issuse's.
can i use a mk2 golf gti gearbox, will it fit, will it take the power?
i was thinkin about fitting mk3 golf gti 5 stud hubs will they fit?

MK2 16v box will work fine with this conversion yes. Go for the cable change box.

Mk3 Gti 5 stud hubs do not work on roccos as it changes the entire steering suspension geometry. you could use adaptors if your wanting to run 5stud wheels, but think your stuck with a 4 stud setup brake and hub wise.

Some1 may be able to give more advice on this, its just what i picked up reading some threads on another site.

Actually using Mk2/Mk3 golf uprights on a lowered Scirocco / mk1 Golf is a really good idea so long as combined with lower ball joint extenders ... it allows you to correct the steering geometry which goes to pot when you lower an A1 chassis!!! Some machining is required but I hope to be covering this in the project budget blaster build!

this is where i read it:

Roger may be correct tho, it is possible i guess but might be abit of work. Its defo not just a plug and play job tho.

When you get round to it Roger, i'd be really interested in seeing how you do this!!!
